Thanksgiving Day

Today, I am thankful for so many things. My family and friends. My health. Beautiful weather. Not so beautiful weather. Sweet potatoes. Yarn. Mythbusters. And so much more. But I'd rather spend the day with my family than typing up a blog no one reads.

The Nutcracker

When I was very young someone took my to see The Nutcracker. I don't remember when, or who. I just remember falling in love. The music, the dancers, the colors, and movement. It was another world. When it ended I cried, morning the loss of so much beauty. This wound be repeated in years to come, this joy and sadness, every time the school took us to a theater. In middle school I begged my mother to let me attend concerts and plays at the high school. She rarely relented. When my brother joined the school band in fifth grade I celebrated, knowing I would attend at least two concerts a year from that point on. I also realised that in my family appreciation of art was worth nothing, with creation of it worth just barely more. So in high school I took Visual Art and joined the Art Club, mostly because I knew the art shows were scheduled on the same nights as band concerts. My senior year, with my driver's licence finally in hand, I attended every event at school.
Really, this is just a long, rambling way of saying, the Chattanooga Ballet will be preforming The Nutcracker this year and I'd really like to go.
